Santa Fe, NM – The Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters Executive Secretary-Treasurer, Dan Langford’s statement on HB 85:

“Carpenters and their families scored a victory in New Mexico today when Governor Grisham signed HB 85 – the ‘Union Security Agreements’, making it the law of the land. We are grateful to the Governor and to the bill’s sponsors, Representatives Daymon Ely and Andrea Romero, who stood firm and rallied support for the new law which states that labor organizations anywhere in the state may execute and apply an agreement requiring membership in a labor organization as a condition of employment.

With this new law, New Mexico has struck a blow against deceitful so-called “right-to-work” advocates. It’s a good day for New Mexico’s carpenters, and all working families in the state.”
