VOLUNTEERS FROM CARPENTERS’ UNION LOCAL 1977 GIVE BACK TO VETS
Veterans Village #2 February Makeover Event
Las Vegas, NV— This Saturday, 2/16/19, carpenters from Local 1977 will answer the “Community Call-to-Action” at the Veterans Village #2 February Makeover Event, 50 N. 21st Street, LV, NV 89101. The event arranged by Dr. Arnold Stalk PhD, President and CEO of Veterans Village, will upgrade more than a dozen residential units on the property. Upgrades will include carpentry, painting, plumbing, landscaping, HVAC and electrical work.
Homelessness among Las Vegas’ veterans has decreased with the help of organizations like Veterans Village. The Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters has donated the carpentry materials, skill, and professionalism to assist with this weekend’s upgrade. “The words ‘homeless’ and ‘veteran’ shouldn’t exist within the same sentence,” said Jovan Johnson, Local 1977 carpenter. “However, since it does, Las Vegas Union Carpenters are committed to helping those who unselfishly served this great country however we can.”
The Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters implemented the Carpenters Union Participation Program in January 2019. C.U.P.P plans to provide volunteers for this worthwhile event, as well as many others throughout the Vegas valley. Although the C.U.P.P program has only been in place since January, Local 1977 has already completed 7 community projects with another 6 planned through the end of February.
